Hair Contouring – The New Thing

Hair Contouring – The New Thing

No, your eyes and ears aren’t playing tricks on you—the contouring phenomenon has officially branched out into hair color, using highlights, at that, to achieve a more defined face shape.

Colour is concentrated near cheekbones, then around the corners of eyes, which creates a lifted appearance. Your features will pop by simply placing the right amount of consistency within the highlights, following the cheekbones and the eyes. “When contouring the hair, you must follow the movement of the natural hair flow. You can’t have the highlights too close to each other because you need depth to make the color pop, so you must have a very delicate approach when focusing around the hairline.” Through using a balayage-esque painting technique, you use a much lighter hand and allows the natural hair color to penetrate through the highlighted portion.

Rather than your foil highlights, your only painting the surface of the hair. It’s a natural-looking finish, and since there aren’t noticeable lines of demarcation, it’s a low-maintenance look. The technique works on every hair color and texture out there, so both hair color virgins and heavily-processed tresses alike can get in on the fun. You can ask your hairstylist to emphasize areas near your cheekbones and eyes to make them pop, or better yet, bring in a picture and have them tailor the color to fit your natural tone. Just like with babylights, the contrast is barely-there.

UNDERSTANDING TYPES OF HAIR COLOUR

There are 4 types of hair colour each type dose a different job and you would choose which one to have by thinking carefully about the look you want to achieve. Here is a great way of understanding each one.
1) Permanent This has full coverage (even those pesky grays) depth and tone and covers like a lipstick.
2) Semi permanent gives great shine, depth and tone and covers like a lip gloss slightly more translucent.
3) Demi colour gives you depth and tone but will fade almost like when you pop a gloss over lipstick.
4) High lift tint lifts the hair making it feel lighter and younger.

There are lots of other factors that go’s into choosing the right colour for you and we will walk you through these so there will be no more nervous waiting as the colour develops.
* These factors include what technique will help you achieve the over all look you are after.
* Are you warm or cool skin tone.
* What placement is needed around your face to bring out your best features.
* What type of fabric is your hair.

By assessing all the above your stylist will be able to give you a truly bespoke colour just for you. Get it just right and your eyes will literally pop from your profile.

It is really important to stress that we do NOT colour anyone’s hair with out first doing a skin sensitivity test 48 hours before any colour service. We are a professional salon and our guest care is our most important priority. Even if you have had a test in another salon unless we carry out another one we will not carry out any colour service….

Olaplex – Obsessions Salon Ramsgate

Olaplex – Obsessions Salon Ramsgate

Olaplex Obsessions salon in Ramsgate

I’m not sure how we ever worked without Olaplex in obsessions salon Ramsgate , if I’m really honest. Say’s Jennifer salon owner

A staple in our Ramsgate multiple award-winning salon’s toolbox to ensure that we don’t compromise our client’s hair.

Keeping the health of our client’s hair is at the forefront of everything we do to ensure that you not only love your hair but love us taking care of it too.

How does Olaplex work?

To breakdown how Olaplex works in a non-technical way, I like to think of the inside of your hair as a ladder – Yep, you heard that right, an old fashioned wooden ladder light in colour and dusty from all the hard work it has been doing (welcome to the inside of my brain lol)

When we apply a chemical process, some of the runs of the ladder get broken, and the hair becomes weak. Olaplex’s job is to stop this from happening and fix a few extra old broken runs while it’s there.

How does your hair feel after an olaplex treatment?

In all honesty, It’s not the silky, smooth, beautiful feeling you will be expecting. Instead, you won’t feel much difference on the outside. This is because it works deep within the cortex of the hair. To give me this just stepped out the salon feel, I also tend to do a moisture-rich treatment on top, so I feel like that pampered princess I want to feel like if I’m giving some work time over to self-care (Yes, I am a workaholic)

Leaving it in while I do something else has been a new norm, with the time-saving element appealing to me massively. I will also be sporting Olaplex around the pool in Cypres this summer to give my hair the tender loving care I know it needs.

The other thing I want to mention is the visible notice of less snapping when brushing my hair. You know it’s time to take the olaplex journey when you brush your hair and look down, and your jeans are covered in short snapped fragments of your hair. (You know what I’m talking about)

I also want to mention that I do not have my hair coloured without Olaplex in my colour.

Can you put olaplex in hair colour?

Yes, you can, and I would definitely recommend it every time. So much so that we have built it into the price of some of our colour prices (ask your obsessions salon Ramsgate stylist for more info)

There are two ways that olaplex can be used in a salon.

1 – You have it in colour to help protect and strengthen your hair while being coloured.

2 – You can have a stand-alone treatment at the basin as a treat or as part of your hair care routine trip to your fave Ramsgate salon.

Obsessions salon Ramsgate proudly applies Olaplex to the women of Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Margate, sandwich and canterbury.

Holiday haircare

You’ve researched on pintrest all the wonderful hidden places to visit at your chosen destination, had your mnicure and pedicure packed your clothes and got your tickets and passport out ready but that I’ve forgotten something feeling keeps on lingering….

What is it??

Your Hair silly… This should become top priority if you want instgram worthy pictures to make your friends wish they were there. Some prep, tlc while away and you’re ready for the paparazzi.

First things first, before you jet off ensure that your hair is in the best condition possible. So, book in a hair cut even it’s in just a trim. It’ll help remove any split ends or damage so your hair is less likely to suffer further damage. If you’re booked in for a colour, particularly highlights, mention to your stylist that you are going away. Being in the sun can cause your hair to lift two to three shades so they may recommend a tone darker.

If you’re one for relaxing by the pool, (I don’t move from it) ONE option is to cover up your hair with a hat or Simply wet your hair in the morning apply some Paul Mitchell Super Charge conditioner all over your hair and laze by the pool allowing the heat to open up the cuticles and the deep treatment to penetrate the cuticles. Then when you’re ready to go for dinner rinse out and style hey presto silky smooth beautiful shiny hair.

This is a simple way to avoid damaging your locks with UV rays and also protects you from burning your scalp, whilst looking super stylish at the same time. UV rays can break down hair proteins and cause brittle damaged hair. This leaves hair at risk of further breakage when hair is hit from the wind, air conditioning and air pollution so it’s really important to cover up if you can.

Always remember to rinse hair after taking a dip in the pool as the chlorine in the water can discolour hair that has been highlighted or bleached. Swimming in the sea may give beachy waves thanks to the sea salt, but make sure you use a cleansing shampoo every couple of days to remove build up and avoid hair becoming brittle and dry. If your hair is super dry and damaged leave a conditioning mask on overnight to nourish.
