What is Curl Casting?
Curl casting is a technique used to encourage your curls to dry in their natural pattern, resulting in defined, bouncy curls with minimal frizz. By “casting” your curls in place while they dry, you can lock in shape and texture, setting the stage for a fabulous curly hair day.
Step-by-Step Guide to Curl Casting:
- Start with Clean, Conditioned well hydrated Hair: Begin by washing and conditioning your curls with products formulated for your curl type. Gently detangle your hair using a wide-tooth comb or your fingers while the conditioner is still in your hair to minimise breakage.
- Apply Styling Product: While your hair is still soaking wet, and I mean soaking apply a generous amount of curl-enhancing styling product. Choose a product that suits your curl type—whether it’s a curl cream, gel, or mousse—and distribute it evenly throughout your hair, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends.
- Section Your Hair: Divide your hair into manageable sections using clips or hair ties. This will make it easier to apply the casting technique and ensure that every curl gets the attention it deserves.
- Cast Your Curls: Here’s where the magic happens! Starting with one section at a time, gently scrunch your curls upwards towards your scalp using your hands or a microfiber towel. Hold the scrunch for a few seconds to encourage the curl pattern, then release. Repeat this process for each section of your hair until all curls are cast in place.
- Allow Your Hair to Air Dry: Once your curls are cast, allow your hair to air dry naturally. Avoid touching or disturbing your curls while they dry to prevent frizz and maintain definition. You can speed up the drying process by using a diffuser attachment on a low heat low speed setting, but be sure to maintain the casted shape as you dry.
- Release and Fluff: Once your hair is completely dry, gently release the cast by flipping your head upside down and shaking out your curls. Use your fingers to gently fluff and separate your curls for added volume and movement.
Congratulations, you’ve mastered the art of curl casting! With this technique in your arsenal, you can say goodbye to frizzy, undefined curls and hello to gorgeous, bouncy curls that turn heads wherever you go. Remember to experiment with different products and techniques to find what works best for your unique curl type, and don’t be afraid to embrace the beauty of your natural curls. Here’s to happy, healthy, and beautifully casted curls every day!
