A Visit to Obsessions Salon

A Visit to Obsessions Salon

The last time you visited a new salon.

Where your expectations merely met or exceeded?

A visit to obsessions salon. A Ramsgate hair salon obsessed with detail.

I recently carried out a poll on my Instagram account, asking if guests get anxious, when they visit a new salon or if they worry about having a new style. Well, the results did surprise me, 75% of you get anxious when visiting a new salon and 78% worry about a new style.

This got me thinking about how I can make this a more comfortable experience for you. So I’m going to talk you through a session in obsessions, and give you an idea of the experience before you visit us.

Booking an appointment

On booking your hair appointment you will be asked a few questions, things like, Tell me about your hair?, Have you been recommended to any stylist in particular? or When were you looking to book in?. This is Ensuring we get you booked in with the most suitable stylist, for you and your hair needs.

Matching you with the right stylist is our main priority as different stylists excel in different areas and we want to get this right for you.

Once we have these key pieces of information and we have you paired with the right stylist we can book you in at a time that suits you best.

Appointment time

On arrival, you will be greeted by our reservationist who will take your coat, get you seated and offer you a drink.

Don’t worry you won’t be there long. Your stylist will greet you and take you over to their station, to discuss all your hair wants, needs and dreams.

An appointment with me.

We will get to know each other at your consultation and I’ll ask you some questions. These will include lifestyle questions, how much time you have to spend on your hair at home, styles you may like, but also dislike, when you last loved your hair, and even when you have hated your hair.

Then it’s off to our luxury backwash area. This is where you get to truly relax in one of our laydown chairs, taking in the salon experience.

82% of guests would not return to a salon if their hair wash was poor even if the haircut was GREAT. At Obsessions, we will take our time to assess your hair and it’s need’s and give you a slow, relaxing head massage we even have massages on the chair to help you relax that little bit more.

A learning experience

You will get to learn all about what shampoos, conditioner or treatments I am using and why, but for the most part I will remain quiet so you can unwind.

Now on to my station, this is where all the magic happens. At this point, I like to go over what we agreed, during the consultation. This gives you a chance to think about everything we have discussed and whether you still love the idea or not. It also allows you to relax knowing you’re in safe hands. Throughout the cutting process, I will confirm everything I’m doing and why it’s important to your hair, so that whilst I’m cutting, you know exactly what I’m doing.

I’ll just share with you something I do to ensure I fully understand my guest’s journey.

Shhhhhhh don’t tell anyone…

I myself will at times visit other salons to have my haircut. This is so I get to see whats going on in the industry.

In one salon the stylist cutting my hair didn’t tell me anything she was doing at any point while she was cutting, this left me feeling worried, and if I wasn’t a stylist myself I would’ve been very scared, so to relieve any anxiety at this point I feel a quick recap is truly very important. It then makes your time with us all about you relaxing and enjoying the experience which is so very important to the Obsessions team.

Back to your visit

Okay, now I’ve finished designing your haircut I will clean around the area to remove any hair and re-confirm how you would like to have your hair styled.

It’s important to tell you all about what products I have selected to use on you, I will bring these products over and place them in front of you, please feel free to pick them up and have a look, Smell them feel them I will explain what I am using, where I am applying them, and why to give you all the tools to be able to recreate this blowdry yourself at home.

As I always say the right product and the right amount in the right place are so important.

Once blow-drying I will talk you through how and what I am doing, in order to create the end result you have asked for. This way you know exactly what you need to do at home. Why have a beautiful designer haircut when you can’t maintain or recreate this at home yourself. Now if you feel confident or comfortable enough too, I will even let you have a go, we call this part hands-on hairdressing, but don’t worry if you don’t feel comfortable just be sure it’s something you can do, or try in the future with us.

The last important part of the service is to teach you some tips and tricks or even just go over any part that you are struggling with.

Our existing family

For our existing obsessions family member’s, you are included in our points system which has many different features for you to take advantage of. Talk to your stylist about these and find out more. If you’re struggling with your hair because your hair is changing for whatever reason, you can come in and have a hands-on session with your stylist. We are not just a Ramsgate hair salon we are obsessed with hair and getting it right.

Well I hope this helps, I hope you feel more confident coming in to see us, we are here to help you and we love it.

Until next time.

Were do I start, Well I guess with the biggest thank you of my life!
THANK YOU to everyone who over the last 4 years have supported our mission.

THANK YOU to everyone who has donated their hard earned cash to the coco’s foundation.

THANK YOU to everyone who believed in me and also to those who didn’t as you were the fuel to the fire that burns deep inside my heart, I needed you.

THANK YOU to everyone who sent in clothes or things to take out with me.

THANK YOU to my team who help fundraise every year and to the one’s who have been out themselves to make a change with their own hands.

LASTLY THANK YOU to my kids who stand beside me and live this every day, thank you for pushing me, helping me, attending all the fundraisers even though I know you’d love to be with your friends lol and for being the people you are as thats what allowed me to do what I do.

I sit here in my warm comfy office having just had lunch, I have a warm home to go to after work and 3 wardrobes full of clothes. I have a hot shower ever morning and evening and all the mod cons to make my life effortless, fun and happy.

Yet I long to go back out to Africa where none of that exists WHY? because Africa hold’s my heart.

We have worked with the coco’s foundation for nearly 4 years now, built 11 houses for orphaned children, raised over 15K, feed 5 families every month, provide over 200 orphaned children with breakfast and after school sandwich for 3 months, taken 30 kids to get school uniform and have met some amazing Zulu people that have changed my life forever.

The best is yet to come though as we ramp up what we do moving into 2020

If you would like to get involved in what we do and donate there are a few things you can do.

1 Go directly and donate as much or as little as you can HERE

2 Go directly a set up a monthly direct debit £2 helps provide 20 meals at school or £30 helps feed a family for a month HERE

3 Call the salon on 01843 852662 and arrange to drop off all your unwanted clothes which we take to cash for clothes and use the money to buy school uniforms out there so that orphaned children can attend school.

In advance thank YOU for getting involved and helping us change as many lives as we can in our short time on this beautiful planet even if its just that you say a little prayer to wish us well.

Till next year here are some pics to enjoy of my last trip and lets make 2020 the best fundraising year yet. 🙂

If you see me less I’m doing more 🙂

I love that saying and that literally is my life at the moment. I have been super busy coaching for 365 salon education and delivering lots of education at our yearly symposium to salon owners from all over the country.

The heart and soul of obsessions is about education and always be growing and this fits so well with the ethos of 365 salon education. I absolutely love coaching for these guys and inspiring other salon owners to level up in the coming 2020.

For obsessions our team train every single week without fail and we deliver education to other local hairdressers in a mission to bring the local standard of hairdressing up. It’s a passion of ours to gain knowledge and then to pass it on paying it forward into our industry.

My fave film of all times is Pay it forward I dare you to watch it without crying! Throughout my life ever since a little girl I have always looked at how I can pay things forward and this is how I do it every day.

Christmas party ideas 2019

Christmas party ideas 2019

Adorned hair and sparkling sequins are whats hitting the xmas party this year in full force.

Make this year sparkle like no other.

2019 see’s the return of sparkling dresses and hair thats just so. Whether you like to wear your hair up or down here are some fun ideas to add that little extra to stand out from the crowd and shine bright like the little star of Bethlehem.

Sleek, sharp and pointy with a dark statement lip looks great with a cool stiff metal feel fabric , Just keep the eyes simple and jewellery minimal.
High ponytail with a plait for added texture. Let the hair make all the noise here and keep make up simple and cute.
I love this lose plate with lose hair framing the face. Match bow to the dress and set with statement lashes and a nude lip.
Sleek low bun’s with a Sid part and playful strands look great with a statement colour echoed from dress to lip just don’t forget a cute earring to set the look on fire.
This simple fishtail plate pinned across the nape looks soft yet powerful. allowing some bits to fall gives it that playful feel great for high necked outfits and low back dresses alike. simple makeup soft pinks will look great with this hairstyle.
If you really must wear your hair down but want to do something a little different this simple halo twist is a great way. Simple and elegant use with a middle parting and some show stopping lips for a power punch.

There is no getting away from all that shines this Christmas the catwalks just glistened.

High neck and long sleeves are rocking it this year great for the girl who is always cold just like me. lol
A great twist with a boyfriend suite but with a sexy pop of flesh to show off a stunning figure.
Great for super cold venues while still showing off your shape.
Sequined jackets are a great way to get in on the trend without over commiting or buy them a little longer and use as a dress with a pop of boob and a flash of leg keep heels super slim and high to really show off that leg.
Hate glitter then stay on shine trend and wear a silk that still glistens in the light with a beautiful trouser combo keep accessories, hair and make up simple and pure here to let the outfit take full shine.
The peekaboo jacket trend is out in full force this Christmas too Team with a power trouser and a power lip for maximum effect.

What ever look you choose to rock this year just make sure you enjoy it!

From all of us at obsessions we wish you an amazing party season full of laughter and fun.

What Brides Wish They Had Known Before The Big Day!

What Brides Wish They Had Known Before The Big Day!

Jennifer Louise Obsessions

Let’s start with the most common mistake

1) CHOOSING A STYLE THAT IS IN FASHION RIGHT NOW.
Wedding hair should be timeless, beautiful and classic. There are fashion styles that come and go and will leave you looking at your wedding pictures in 10 years wondering what you were thinking. Skin tight plaits were a big thing 8-10 years ago and many brides were asking for them can you imagine looking at your pictures now with you hair scrapped tight back off your face into a scalp plait?? Thought not….
There are the classic 4 styles which are Chignon, french twist, braids turned into hair ups and the classic beehive and these can have a fashionable twist on them but the classic style still remains the structure.

2) GROWING YOUR HAIR FOR YOUR WEDDING.
If you are known for your sassy short style please don’t try to grow your hair out or apply extensions for that princess look! It just doesn’t work. You want to feel comfortable and confident on this day not worrying about whether anyone can see your hidden extensions, don’t worry they can’t even recognise who you are with all that hair. You need to look like you!

3) DRASTIC COLOUR CHANGE IS A BIG NO.
You will look back in six months and cry – trust me. Just be yourself! Suddenly going blond from dark or some wacky crazy colour is not going to give you the confidence you need to glide down the aisle effortlessly. It may shock your new in-laws though, so if you’re after making a statement – carry on!

4) CONSIDER YOUR FACE SHAPE.
Most brides pick a picture of some beautiful style and ask their stylist for that. A good stylist will measure your face and look at the shape of your head and the side profile of the back of your head to your nose. YEP, there is a lot that goes’s into designing a flattering hair up style bespoke for your day.

5) BOOK THE RIGHT STYLIST.
Now you can see that your hair needs specialist attention, you wouldn’t commision your drunk auntie who claims she can cook to make your bespoke wedding cake now, would you?
Hairdressers are taught to put hair up on a basic level and to last a few hours for a night out. It’s only a few that have gone on to educate themselves on wedding hair courses that understand how to design a beautiful style, keep it in day and night and it to look good on camera.

6) KEEP UP WITH THE CUTS.
Most brides are on a mission to grow, grow, grow and skip a few cuts. If you skip the cut the hair get’s split and dry and actually slows down growing as it spends all its time trying to fix the bad parts. Shiny, healthy and camera-ready hair needs 8 weekly cuts min.

7) STAY TRUE TO YOURSELF.
If you are putting together a themed wedding make sure that you stay true to who you are as a person. Your style is what people know and love about you keep to it.
If you don’t know what your style is, ask 5 people what they think of when they think of you, some of the answers you will know but some may nicely surprise you.

8) DONT OVERUSE HAIR JEWELS
Less is more people, let’s not blind our guests with over the top hair bling.

9) ADD DEPTH AND DIMENSION TO DARKER HAIR.
If you have dark hair you will know what I mean here… Ever seen a beautiful up style on a blonde lady had it done to you and it looks nowhere near as beautiful? Dark hair lacks all the different tones, high and lowlights so just looks flat when put up. We need to add definite depth and dimension to dark hair to make it stand out.

10) BOOK JENNIFER LOUISE! HAHA
She will make sure you don’t make any of the above mistakes 😉
